    Voltage Divider Reference

    How voltage dividers work

    Formula:

    Vout = Vin × (R2 ÷ (R1 + R2))

    Common Uses:

    • Bias voltage for transistors
    • Reference voltage for comparators
    • Signal attenuation
    • Level shifting

    Important Notes:

    • Unloaded calculations assume no current draw
    • Connected loads will affect output voltage
    • Higher resistances reduce power consumption
    • Lower resistances reduce noise sensitivity

    For accurate signal measurement, the impedance of a measuring device should be at least 10× higher than the output impedance of the divider.
